Capturing and Saving Your Video Clips

Step by Step Interactive Tutorial

If you need help to transfer vision from your digital video camera to your computer, and save your video clips as ".avi files" (preferred format) to send to us; below is a step by step interactive tutorial using Windows Movie Maker!

To operate the tutorial (below) simply locate the "controller" and use the navigation buttons.

Using Windows Movie Maker, it's easy to capture video and audio to your computer.

Equipment & Computer Requirements

What you need to “capture” and then “save” your video clips.

Equipment required:

  • MiniDV digital video camera
  • MiniDV tapes
  • Computer that supports a digital video connection
  • i.Link port (also known as FireWire or IEEE 1394) on your computer
  • Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2, or VISTA which includes Movie Maker 2.1
  • Tripod
  • CD burner
  • Blank CD or DVD

Connection
i.Link/FireWire/IEEE 1394

Recommendation

The easiest way to connect your camera to your computer is with an i.Link (also known as FireWire or IEEE 1394) cable. If you don't have a FireWire port on your computer, you (or a professional at an electronics store) can install an i.Link adapter. Your digital video camera kit will include the proper cable.
